Room 5 (Terrific 2s &3s) Update

We are now more than half way through our year and we have seen many changes and areas of growth in all the children. Many are making friends and showing a preference for playing with certain children. Conversations are flowing from the children to each other and to the teachers as verbal skills increase at a huge rate.

The children are participating in circle time, often asking for favorite songs and sharing their names or stating their favorite things to eat or do. They have favorite flannel board stories and dance or play various games. Teacher Maria often reads well-known books to them in Spanish, so if you hear a word from them that you do not recognize, if may well be a Spanish word for an animal or fruit.

We also have been talking about colors and shapes in circle and on our manipulatives table, and our book shelves have reflected those topics as well as spring stories. Our tape story at the end of the day is also popular and provides an easy transition between lunch and snack and being picked up to go home.

The children notice and miss their friends when they are absent from school. Please inform a teacher if you are going away on vacation, or call the office if your child is sick so we can let the children know why their friends are not in school and when they will return. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to talk to a teacher.

Teachers, -Jan, Maria, & Josette

ESCRIP REMINDER

Escrip is the easiest and most convenient way to raise money for our great preschool. All you have to do is sign up. It only takes a few minutes, and costs you nothing! REALLY!!! Go to www.escrip.com and do a search for Children’s Corner. We truly appreciate the support!

ROOM 6 (Thrilling 3s and 4s) Update

Spring is on it’s way, they say! We have found creative ways to play outdoors in spite of all the rain we have been having. Group time has been a busy time. We have been dancing and pretending to be animals. We have been playing memory games and guessing games. We have looked at our hair and shoes and made charts with information we gathered. These activities work on pre-math skills and pre-reading. We also read stories and sing songs. The children have really gained experience in attending and focusing.

The language and communication skills of the children have really grown. Children can be heard offering solutions in conflict situations. They also express empathy when friends are hurt or say. And, the stories and jokes they tell; it is really fun to listen and talk with them.

Thank you for keeping your children home when they are sick. There have been alot of sick kids and grown-ups, too. We work hard to wash hands often and keep our tables and toys clean. When we work together, it really helps keep illness down. Thank you to all who signed up for and came to conferences. They are optimal, and it is always a pleasure to take time to talk about your children. Each one is truly unique!

Teachers Laura, Julie, and Jeff

Clark House Update

The last few months have been very busy here at the Clark House In February we celebrated the Chinese New Year and even had a parade to chase away the bad spirits. The children enjoyed playing instruments as they walked all up and down the sidewalks!!! We also participated in the potluck on Valentine’s Day at the main center. Although the children sometimes hesitated to sing the songs with us at circle, they were constantly singing them most other times. In circle time we talked about our friends and neighbors as well as those we love. We discussed how we should treat our friends at school.

As March rolled in so did a lot of inside days where the children had ample time to practice what we had discussed on how to treat their friends. We enjoyed watching the children experiment with problem solving and helping them when needed. The close quarters helped form some stronger friendships for all of the children. The leprechauns visited us on St. Patrick’s Day to the amazement of the children. They wondered aloud with each other how they managed to get feet prints of the ceiling. Our Irish teachers made a traditional Irish lunch which all of the children gobbled up. In circle time we talked about community helpers- like firemen, policemen, and postal workers. They children even practiced “writing” letters to mail home. On our few dry days, we began our class garden. The children loved digging in the garden and planting seeds. We can’t wait to see it grow. Teacher Janet finished her student teaching practicum, and we had to tell her good-bye. She has already been in for a quick hello, and we can’t wait to see her again!

By the end of the first week of April we had a taste of the spring we had been discussing with the children. We colored eggs as we welcomed spring, and made many bright colored art projects. We watched our garden start to sprout up and talked about the watermelon we would enjoy later in the year. Waiting is the hardest part. Sadly, in April we said good-bye to Teacher Julie who went over to the main center. We were sad to see her go, but know she will visit us soon! We welcomed Teacher Sylvia to our class, and enjoyed having her tell us how to say all our favorite things in Spanish.

In the coming months we plan to continue working on our garden, by learning how to care for it. We will welcome more and more sunny, warm days in which we can spend time learning and creating outdoors.

-Teachers, Pauline, Missi, and Sylvia
